The Christian Church started when Christ was still on earth with his followers (disciples).
Before Christ was ascended into heaven he gave to his followers the supreme task to spread his saving message to all the earth. It was his will – and still being –, that all men come to believe in him, so that they may receive forgiveness, salvation and life everlasting.
At the time of Christ’s Ascension, about 500 believers were gathering together. A few days later, on Pentecost Day, about 3.000 were joined to the church and, afterwards, more 5.000 (Acts 2, 4).
As faithful Christians, the Disciples of Christ took their missionary task very seriously. Some decades later, there were Christians spread in many parts of Africa, Asia Minor and Europe.
Always having faithful Christians as its leaders, the Gospel of Christ was spread and accepted by many people. Besides of the persecutions and of the many Christians who died because of their faith, the Christianity flourished in many places.
